European-inspired room makeovers

Spotted this dining room in the Sept. 07 issue of Traditional Home -- the whole issue is devoted to "Before and After" home makeovers. I was a little disappointed that there was no "before" photo of this room, half the fun is seeing the change, right? ...Anyway, so I decided in our next house, somewhere down the road when we actually have a dining room, I'd love to do a long antique sideboard to display china. My Aunt has a beautiful one from England (I believe) similar to one shown above, and I've always thought it was such a neat way to display items. I'm into the creamware idea too... lots of collected pitchers or serving platters. I don't know that I could pull off the white monogrammed seat covers... I'm actually curious to know what you all think of those... yay or nea? Please leave comments in the link below!

I LOVE the look of the dining room - not so sure about the monogrammed chair covers though. I am not sure I like the look of those particular chair covers and am a fan of more subtle monogramming. As a general rule I think chair covers can look great and like to see fabric added to rooms to add another dimension and soften a room.

Thanks for leaving some thoughts. I think you're right! Fabric added to rooms can help soften larger pieces, like a rustic table or sideboard. But these chair covers are a bit too much monogramming.

As a particular fan of monogramming I must say the chair covers seem overdone. Monogramming traces back to identifying linen so that one's servants are not tempted to help themselves. These chair covers strike me as extraneous and could be eliminated altogether without adversely effect ing the theme of elegance. The monogram then makes its appearance during meal service on the napkins.
